Greetings from a warm and sunny Uganda, eat your heart out NZ. We have been without our internet connection for 4 days now, something is 'wrong' with ours so we have borrowed Reny's for tonight, so apologies for not writing this sooner ( I always seem to be apologising for not being able to write weekly, but there is always a reason!). You will be pleased to know that we are both feeling better after our recent bouts of illness, and we were able to distribute to 30 children on Friday some shoes that fitted. We only have about 70 more to find and fit but we are making progress. Our days remain full, we especially enjoy the times when we get you-know-who down. She is a sheer delight , crawling everywhere, loves standing up , and is now over 6kg at last (yeah). She is full of smiles and loves showing off her first tooth. With the dribbling she does we are sure more are on their way too. She loves her solids almost as much as we do, now that we have our appetites back.
Now to the title of this blog, wow Saturday morning! We awoke about 6.30am today to the sound of moving furniture, scrubbing sounds and setting the table. We were a bit grumpy because Saturdays are the only days we have to sleep in, but when we got up we found the boys doing their 'jobs', working cooperatively together. They were tidying their bedrooms, sweeping and mopping the floors, cleaning the toilets and shower, they had polished their school shoes ready for Monday, washed their socks, vacuumed the floor in the lounge and dusted the windows. These are all jobs they normally do after breakfast on a Saturday, but they decided to get up and do them without asking. How neat is that!! The best part for us was they were working together without arguing or fighting. We did point out to them this evening that some of the jobs (toilets, sinks and basins, sweeping lounge) were best left till after breakfast when everyone had 'been' and dropped crumbs from breakfast etc. so next week we will revert to doing the jobs after breakfast. Had a cook-out tonight which the boys enjoy (sausages, potatoes in foil in the fire, onions, and salad plus of course marshmellons as they call them (otherwise known as marshmallows). Overall it has been a good day, with lots of visitors popping in too.
Our landscape is changing rapidly, there is a team of 17 people from Holland here and they have started work on the third family unit so we have lost our peace and quiet as things are really busy with foundations laid and walls starting to go up. We feel 'on-show' as the Ugandans working here are forever looking in at what we are doing (or eating) but I guess it is just a taste of what is to come. Much of the jungle has been cleared around our house so it is much lighter inside now.
Well that's enough news to bore you with for now, we are having a break this week for 3 nights in Kampala which we are looking forward to. Aunty Marjorine will come and stay with the boys which will be good practice for her, and we are confident that she will cope well.
Thank you to those of you who have prayed for us, please don't stop, we have felt the presence of God throughout all our illnesses and believe that this is where we are still meant to be.
Until next time, God Bless.
