Well, well, well again

Greetings to you all and welcome back. Thank you to those who have commented on the lack of entries lately. I did write a blog a week ago but half way through writing it, we lost internet network so that was lost.
The last two weeks have not been good for us health-wise, but we are well again now hence the title of the blog. Since I last wrote about the babies, Marilyn contracted the stomach bug and was laid low for four days and then not to be outdone ( we can't let Marilyn have all the fun) Warwick also got a touch of diarrhea (I've learnt how to spell that really well) and had to rest for a couple of days. Thank you to those who have been praying for us, please don't stop!!
During this time we had Aunty Marjorine staying here also and she was a real Godsend. The washing would be on the line by 6.30am and the cleaning done after breakfast. In the afternoon the ironing would be done before dinner, whereas Marilyn is doing the ironing now(at 8.50pm). Anyway, it was great while it lasted and we look forward to working with her as she takes charge of the girl's home next door soon.
The Aunty who was to come and try out for here, has had to return home so there are no immediate plans for us to move, which we are not unhappy about.
However, things have been moving at quite a pace on the other side of us. A section of the jungle has been cleared ready for the construction of the third family unit as there is a team from Holland who are coming in about 10 days time to help with the building, so our 'quiet' space is no more. We will soon have neighbours on one side and building on the other. The crew who have done the clearing are all women who are parents and they chatter away and we are sure we provide them with much amusement, especially when we try to talk to them in Lugandan.
Today we had Raghma down in the afternoon and she is starting to regain some of the spark she had before she got sick. It was alarming to us how quickly babies can lose condition and dehydrate in this climate, we are thankful for the care they have received and that they are all improving. It was a particularly nasty bug that infected them.
There is concern here in Uganda about the political and social climate as we get closer to elections early next year. There has been an increase in theft and corruption, threats against Government and individuals, it is like a dark cloud hanging over the country. We are praying fervently against evil forces, your prayers would help too. Please be assured that we are safe here in the compound, though we do need to be vigilant about theft, we have been 'lucky' so far.
I will try to get some pictures posted separately, but for now
God Bless

Please Pray

Just a quick but urgent request. There are very many sick children, especially babies, right now including Raghma.
Would you please pray for her, Job, Isaac, Tirza, Theodore, Dina and many others. They have vomitting and diarrhea and have difficulty keeping any food down. We have had Raghma here during the day for the last two days and she is lethargic and has lost a lot of condition which she cannot afford.
There are always sick children here as you would expect, but this is a nasty bug affecting more than usual.
Please pray for Dr. Fahad and Renske as they oversee the treatment of these babies.

The week that was

Greetings, you will by now realise that we have been trying, with only some success, to post photos on the blog. The last lot were there for a day but have gone again so I'm not sure what I can do. Any suggestions anyone?

Another week has gone by and it has not been a good one really, we have both been somewhat suffering from health issues. I have been lacking energy and getting very tired, and Marilyn has experienced some rather painful arthritis-like pains in her upper legs so we both feel like a couple of old 'crocks'. However we are starting to improve thankfully. We have just taken things quietly apart from a very necessary shopping trip to Kampala on Thursday. Wednesday was a public holiday (Hero's Day) so the boys were home for that.
WE HAVE BEEN HERE A WHOLE YEAR!!!!! On Friday we celebrated our first anniversary of arriving in Uganda. It has been a year of challenge and change, a year like no other for us. We still believe this is where God wants us to be, there is so much to be done for the lives of these children and we get much joy.
Our roles may be changing sometime soon though. The girls house is finished and they are ready to move in. Aunty Marjorine, the Aunty who will run the family unit we think, has been working up at the home for the last two weeks and came down here to be with us for a week or two to see how we do things here. Meanwhile another Aunty (Justine) started yesterday with a view to her possibly taking over the boys home from us in due course. She is up at the home familiarising herself with things  there before she exchanges places with Marjorine down here. The whole time frame for this is still a little uncertain as there are a couple of large teams coming during July and space for accommodation is tight.
And where do we go? We will oversee the running of the family units, ultimately from our own home, but perhaps initially from another of the homes here, but we don't expect too much to change before August.
An update on the car situation. I have been using the land cruiser which is very comfortable to drive though Marilyn hasn't tried it yet. We may look at buying that or may go for a RAV4, we are still investigating.
Please do pray for our health, and for those children who are sick, especially young Joshua who is suffering from a blood disorder and has been struggling a lot lately. Our dear wee Raghma (come on, you knew I couldn't write a blog without mentioning her name) has another cough so please pray for her too.
Sorry there are no pics.
Till next time, God Bless

SHOES!!!!! and holiday

This blog was started 10 days ago and I got half way through writing it when the internet went down so I lost most of it. Here goes for now....Another week successfully completed though it has been somewhat frustrating. With the start of the new term there have been many children who have outgrown their shoes so we were asked to help find some. We went to the school storeroom fully confident that there were plenty of shoes and in pairs. silly us!! This is Uganda, many of the shoes were scattered in different boxes, and even some new bags had appeared with a mixture of shoes in. There were many pairs, but they were not in the same bags......so.... we set about once again to reorganise them. It was so disheartening to have to redo something we have already done so we are going to set up a new system for giving out the shoes.
We had a new baby arrive on Sunday, baby Dina, one week old, severely malnourished but with the loving care of Mama she has been making good progress.
On Monday we went on a much needed break to Jinja expecting to have a time basking in the sun and catching up on reading and sleep. Monday was great, but on Tuesday the only thing I caught was a touch of diarrhea and that made me very tired so I was a right off. Came right by Wednesday night but on Thursday Marilyn awoke with a migraine so by lunchtime we made our way home. The weather had been overcast and we only got to swim on Monday, so we were pleased to return home on Thursday. It was a holiday for the boys (Martyr's Day), this week we have another holiday (Heroe's Day), we have been advised to stay on the compound on that day as there seem to be all sorts of riots then, so shopping this week will be Thursday. We have had many visitors to the compound, one of Ezra's sponsors came for three days, a lass from America here for 3 months, a group of four from Holland, a friend of Mama's and her family and friends, and yesterday a group of 10 Canadians arrived for 10 days. They are staying in the girl's home next door. Last week was frantic work to get everything ready for them. The girls are really excited seeing their home finished. There has been a Ugandan Aunty employed to look after the girls once the Canadians leave. We have had girls visiting every day to check on progress. So our 'neighbourhood' is changing and we will not be as isolated here.
So life is busy here as usual, on Friday we will have been here for a whole year, and we look back on it realising we have had no time before this, quite like it. Very challenging and very rewarding.
We had another baby arrive yesterday, Isaac, nearly 6 months old, left on the side of a road and taken to the police. He is such a happy wee baby, though he is not too wee, quite a solid chap and obviously well looked after.
Please pray for Papa as he recovers from Malaria, he is struggling to get enough rest time as there are so many demands on his time with all the visitors, so please pray for rest. Also for wee Dina who today has developed pneumonia, Ischar who is suffering with her breathing and has asthma. Also please pray for me as I am  not yet back to full strength. Finally please pray for a quick recovery for my brother Alan who has had a hip replacement this week.
Thank you to those who continue to keep in contact, especially Ruth who keeps us up to date with weekly happenings. We love getting news from NZ and other places.
Till next time
God Bless
